AirVenture 2011 - Museum

It was too late on Tuesday afternoon to go into the show, so we checked out the Museum, which I enjoyed touring with my Dad & brother-in-law Doug.

Always one of my favorite planes in the museum:  the Fokker DR-1 Triplane.

They had a video of Johnny Carson flying with the famous aerobatic pilot Art Scholl.  They were doing all the maneuvers very low.  Johnny said he would have barfed but he didn't know which way was down.

This is a new area of the museum I havn't really seen before.  It's more of a space where they can have dinners & speakers and such than a display. But they do have the Corben Baby Ace hanging overhead where you can get a good look at it from the baloney.

Off to the side is new exhibit about Paul Poberezny and the founding of the Experimental Aircraft Association in 1953.  This is a replica of the first EAA Headquarters -- located in the Poberezny's basement.

The interior of the Voyager's replica fuselage.  Unbelievably smalll -- Dick Rutan and Joanna Yeager lived inside this small space for ten days while they flew around the world non-stop.

A radio-controlled model of the Spruce Goose.  It must be challenging to get all eight engines running full power simultaneously.
